VMEA ROBERT STAMBACK HONORS CHOIR SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

The VMEA Robert Stamback Honors Choir Memorial Scholarship Award, established through donations given in his memory, is to be presented annually to a deserving choral student selected by the Memorial Scholarship Committee, in agreement with the Honors Choir Chairman and VMEA President.  The Stamback family requests that the scholarship be awarded as an annual $100 financial assistance to an Honors Choir member.  Robert Stamback was active in the establishment of the VMEA Honors Choir and was an outstanding choral director at Tucker High School in Richmond and Lake Braddock High School in Fairfax County.  He was also a past president of VMEA and VCDA.  His enthusiasm and passion for music has had a lasting impact on music education in Virginia.

AN OPPORTUNITY TO HONOR A FORMER MENTOR/TEACHER

The VMEA Robert Stamback Memorial Honors Choir Scholarship Award is presented to an outstanding Honors Choir Member during the Honors Choir Concert at the VMEA Conference in November.  Applications/recommendation forms are available on the VMEA/VCDA website. All choral directors are encouraged to recommend their outstanding seniors. To be selected for the scholarship, the student must have been selected as a member of Honors Choir. The purpose of the award is honor Robert Stamback, an outstanding Virginia choral director who participated in the organization of Honors Choir and also served as President of both VCDA and VMEA. The scholarship provides financial assistance for the selected student’s Honors Choir participation fee.

Beginning this spring, the Robert Stamback Honors Choir Scholarship Committee will offer the opportunity for choral directors to contribute to the scholarship fund in honor of a former mentor/teacher.  What a wonderful way to say thank you to the special person who promoted your desire to become a choral music educator!

Your tribute to the former mentor/teacher will be included in the concert program in an appropriate manner, such as:

Robert Stamback Honors Choir Scholarship Fund 2009 Special Contributions
“Jane Doe, (school or division), honors John Doe, her high school choral director…….”

Please note that the form asks your permission to print your name in the program.

The amount for contributions is a personal choice. Your thoughtfulness in honoring a former mentor/teacher is far more important than the amount of a contribution.

Should you wish to participate in this opportunity, please fill in the attached form and return along with your donation to:
